WTO says 14 members plan to stop Russia's preferential trade mode

GENEVA, Mar 16 (PRIME) -- The World Trade Organization (WTO) has received statements from 14 members informing about their intent to cancel the preferential trade regime for Russia, an official told PRIME on Wednesday.

"The WTO received statements of 14 WTO members yesterday, if we see the E.U. as one member, in which they explained their disagreement with the conflict in Ukraine and Russia's role in it,” the official said.

“It was mostly a political statement, rather than official notification."

The official added that the states planned to suspend the preferential trade regime for Russia and stop work on Belarus's accession to membership.

The states comprise the U.S., the U.K., the E.U., Moldova, Canada, Norway, Republic of Korea, Japan, Albania, Australia, Iceland, New Zealand, North Macedonia and Montenegro.
